SUMMARY:Daydreaming w/ Colette Aliman
DESCRIPTION:Koda’s sunday matinee\, where selectors take us on a deep listening journey by daylight \nDaydreaming is a recurring event at Koda where we invite selectors to take us on an extended listening trip to drift away to. \nLong sets make it possible to go down different roads\, to surprise\, to let loose and strengthen the emotional response. This time\, we have invited.. Colette Aliman \nColette Aliman is a Rotterdam-based sound artist and researcher whose practice centers on listening as a method for navigating care\, energy transition\, and more-than-human environments. She creates installations\, performances\, and participatory audio works exploring acoustic ecology\, sonic equity\, and infrastructural sound. \n~~~~ \nEntry: pay-what-you-can \nReserve your spot here

SUMMARY:Long Play: Het Vreemd - Dutch Underground Synth & Wave (1982-1987)
DESCRIPTION:Long Play is our event series that celebrates new and noteworthy releases and gives the album format the attention it deserves. \nAt our long play sessions\, we select an album that deserves our full attention and play it from front to back. We listen together in silence\, and discuss what we heard afterwards. This time we are listening to.. Het Vreemd. With special guest Rutger Nijkamp\, who will introduce the album\, the story behind it and its influences. After the listening session\, there is room for questions and to get a vinyl copy of the album. \nHet Vreemd is a compilation of lost Dutch synthesizer and wave music from 1982 to 1987. Compiled by Nijkamp\, who inherited many tapes from his musician-mother Veronique (Verque on the compilation). What started as a personal collection grew into a search for the stories behind a world of DIY music-making. Het Vreemd brings ten forgotten songs back to life\, with themes resonating strangely with the present. \nNijkamp: “This compilation project started in the summer of 2022\, when my mom handed me a small metal box. Inside were quirky band photos and DIY cassettes from the 1980s\, which she had just received from a friend from her first band. On top lay a photo of three young guys in white outfits leaning against a pasture fence\, a Roland JX-3P synthesizer resting in the grass. In the middle stood my mom! \n“While doing research\, I learned that the 1980s were an interesting time in (Dutch) music history. For the first time\, musicians could cheaply record and release their own music on cassette\, creating a flourishing DIY scene. Bands splintered into duos and solo projects\, experimenting with synthesizers\, drumcomputers and home recording. Although many artists chose to sing in English\, I became increasingly drawn to the songs with Dutch lyrics. They sounded direct\, slightly boxy\, sometimes awkward\, but also honest and vivid. What I think is interesting is that the sociopolitical themes in the songs on the compilation album still resonate strangely with the present. From housing shortages and environmental crises to the threat of nuclear war and technological optimism\, many of the hopes and anxieties captured in Dutch underground music of the 1980s feel surprisingly current. That connection between past and present is something that fascinates me and runs through this project”. \n~~~ \nEntry: pay-what-you-can \nReserve your spot here

SUMMARY:Listening Circle: Rain
DESCRIPTION:Every first thursday of the month\, we step out of our streaming bubbles to encounter music we might never have heard otherwise. \nPut your raincoats back on\, because summer is over\, people. Dreadful to some\, wonderful for others: we are heading for days filled with clouds\, grayness and regular releases of water falling from the sky. \nThe theme for this edition of the listening circle is therefore: rain. What song fits a rainy day best in your opinion? Or captures the phenomenon in the most fitting way? \nEvery first thursday of the month\, we step out of our streaming bubbles to encounter music we might never have heard otherwise. Whether you’re a lifelong music nerd or just someone who wants to hear something new\, you’re welcome. \nEach participant brings one song that they feel is connected to the theme. We listen together on Koda’s sound system\, giving each track our full attention. Afterward\, we talk about what we heard: what moved us\, surprised us\, or stood out to us. \nHow it works: \n\nPick a song\, and bring it on vinyl\, cd or usb (or make sure it can be streamed at Koda through Tidal or Youtube).\nThe song can be max. 7 minutes long.\nAll genres are welcome.\nSongs will be picked at random\, we try to play everyone’s songs within the time we have.\nWe will ask you to introduce the song beforehand (which is optional).\nWe listen to it together in silence\, with the possibility for discussion afterwards.\nIf you don’t want to bring a song and just want to come and listen\, that’s also fine!\n\n~~~ \nEntry: 6 euros \nGet your ticket here
