FOCUS Collective

Formed in 2020, FOCUS consists of a group of music nerds from Rotterdam, united by the goal of creating collective attentive listening experiences. At these gatherings, people get the opportunity to relax, meet like-minded people and hear music in a completely different way. Simply, by doing nothing else than listening - without distraction - to songs being played on great soundsystems. We have organized various events in the area over the years, partnering with BIRD, Keilecafe, V11, Operator Radio, Het Nieuwe Instituut, De Doelen, Time Is The New Space & CultureHub as well as many other initiatives from Rotterdam and beyond.

We operate under two monnikers, namely 'FOCUS Luistersessies' for pop-up listening events in Rotterdam at unique locations, and 'KODA', which is our listening space and hangout in Schiedam.

FOCUS Luistersessies

Inspired by listening bars around the globe, FOCUS wants to bring open-minded, music-loving people in Rotterdam (and elsewhere) together through special sonic experiences. Such experiences are shaped by the look, feel, shape and structure of the room, which interacts with the recording of a song and the gear reproducing it. These variables are different at each event, making each experience unique.

The main goal of our events is to allow music lovers, regardless of genre preferences or taste, to meet and discover new songs and extraordinary sound systems. We want to let people experience music the way the artist - the first listener - intended it.

LISTENING SPACE & CREATIVE CLUBHOUSE

KODA

Hidden in the monumental Soda Factory (Sodafabriek) in Schiedam, a tiny listening space is waiting to be discovered. Measuring less than 30 square meters, KODA is the perfect place for super intimate listening experiences. This is the place where DJ's showcase the depths of their vinyl collections, musicians present their new releases to fans and music lovers meet and share their love for music. The room is fitted with a vintage Klipsch soundsystem to provide a great listening experience.

KODA is a not for profit space that operates through the philosophy of open programming. The door is always open for (local) talent: organizers, musicians and DJ's alike to organize their own listening sessions. So, if you want to organize something here, don't hesitate to reach out.

The space is also available to rent (affordably) for practice, rehearsal, recording sessions or other creative endeavours and meetups.
